The seafront and town centre were bustling with life over the weekend, as people enjoyed their new-found freedoms.  Bistrot Pierre manager Miguel Martinez said the first week was ‘crazy busy’, with the restaurant fully booked for most of the weekend.

Why these high street stores have NOT reopened this week

Why these big-name high street stores have NOT reopened this week THE coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating effect across huge areas of the UK economy, but few areas felt as hard an impact as the retail and hospitality sectors. Restaurants, pubs, bar, cafes and leisure venues were forced to shut their doors in March when the virus first struck the UK. Venues started to reopen their doors to customers again in July but were then hamstrung by local restrictions, a 10pm curfew, new service rules and a second national lockdown in England in November. Thousands of venues are still shut as a result of restrictions across the UK.

From May 17, diners can be served indoors, and the Government hopes to lift almost all lockdown restrictions from June 21.  People will only be able to meet up in groups of six or as two households when visiting a restaurant from Monday, and the opening only extends to outdoor areas. Current rules to order a substantial meal alongside an alcoholic drink will be scrapped and there will be no Government requirement for a curfew. Customers will have to order, eat and drink while seated outside and if people are being shown to a table or using the toilet, they will need to wear a mask.
