This year North Sand Mountain collected more units than Pisgah.
The total number of units collected at North Sand Mountain High School was 53. There were 15 first time donors.
A total of 28 units was collected at Pisgah High School. There were three first time donors.
This annual blood drive was conducted by Blood Assurance, which is a nonprofit, full-service regional blood center serving healthcare facilities in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina. Currently, there are 11 fixed locations and 14 bloodmobiles to collect lifesaving blood products used by area patients.
Wendy Vaughn, account manager for Blood Assurance in Scottsboro, said that the next public blood drive will be Monday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Highlands Medical Center. There is also one scheduled for March 12 from noon until 5 p.m. at Walmart in Scottsboro. Any healthy person should consider donating blood. There is no age limit as long as you are healthy and answer a few questions.

Longtime Lake City school principal dies

Lake City Elementary School in the Anderson County school system was closed Wednesday after the unexpected death of the school s longtime principal Henry Baggett.
“It is with a heavy heart that we let everyone know Anderson County Schools lost a great person and friend last night. Henry Baggett, long time principal at Lake City Elementary School, passed away unexpectedly,” Ryan Sutton, the school system s communications/PR coordinator, stated in an email Wednesday. The cause of death was not given.
“Henry was first named principal at LCES in 2011. He loved the staff and students at LCES and worked tirelessly to make sure they had everything they needed to be successful. There was never a time when Henry did not have a smile on this face. He often talked about how he loved being principal at LCES.

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern head football coach Autry Denson announced the 2021 early signing class on Wednesday morning as the Buccaneers welcomed five players to CSU in the December early signing period.
The Buccaneers’ class spans three states as CSU welcomes players from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia to the roster. The Bucs welcome two offensive linemen, a defensive back, a linebacker, and a defensive lineman to the future roster as CSU addressed spots on both sides of the ball.
