LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) An extensive restoration project for St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral in La Crosse will include removing more than 229 stones weighing a total of 70,000 pounds from the bell tower and replacing them.
The nearly 58 years since the cathedral was dedicated on May 14, 1962, have taken their toll on the church, elements of which will be restored inside and out, according to a news release from the diocese Thursday.
Detroit archdiocese to restore Sunday Mass obligation in March 02/21/2021 at 3:27 PM Posted by Kevin Edward White
Catholic News Agency, February 10, 2021
Most Catholics in the Archdiocese of Detroit will again be obliged to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation starting March 14.
Detroit, along with every U.S. diocese, suspended public liturgies last year in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Archbishop Allen Vigneron of Detroit dispensed all Catholics from their Sunday obligation March 13, 2020.
“In allowing the general dispensation to expire, we welcome back to Mass all Catholics who have already been engaged in other activities that would present a similar or greater risk of exposure, such as eating out at restaurants, traveling, partaking in non-essential shopping, and widening one’s circle of contacts,” Archbishop Vigneron wrote in a Feb. 9 letter.

CNA Staff, Jan 29, 2021 / 04:14 pm (CNA).- The polarization of American politics means that Catholics must be a force for unity rather than “divisively tribal,” and clergy especially need to be careful that they don’t let their personal politics compromise their Christian mission, Bishop Donald Hying of Madison has said.
“All Catholics have to be careful to engage in political life in a manner that reflects the Gospel, but clergy need to exercise special caution so that their political activity is consistent with their vocation in the Church,” he said in a Jan. 27 reflection on the “current state of general acrimony.”
