Latin in Mainstream TV Series and The Newly-Thriving Mass of Ages

Latin in Mainstream TV Series and The Newly-Thriving Mass of Ages January 28, 2021 MANHATTAN Latin is everywhere. It might be in a joke by Icelandic comedian Ari Eldjárn in “Pardon My Icelandic” his Netflix special released on Dec. 2 or in the epic series “Barbarians” (Netflix) and “Romulus” (Sky Italy) both filmed in Latin which premiered late last year. In recent months, we might have consumed the highest doses of mainstream Latin in ages. And when anyone hears a simple note of this melodious language, it immediately prompts Gregorian chants’ images and the old rite Mass. Latin and Catholicism are intrinsically intertwined with the foundation of our Western Culture. They are in our roots and core, practicalities, and imagination. Latin is considered a dead language but still accounts for almost 30% of the modern English language. And interest is growing to the point that Pope Francis’ all-Latin Twitter account (Papa Franciscus: @Pontifex ln) ha

The Development of Vibrant and Rigorous Religious Education

The Tablet January 27, 2021 My dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 2020, our Holy Father, Pope Francis, called the faithful to engage in “The Year of Joseph.” During “The Year of Joseph,” we remember the humble carpenter who was pivotal in our salvation. We are called to be inspired by his challenges and the manner in which he worked, without recognition but driven by his faith in God. As Pope Francis describes in his Apostolic Letter Patris Corde, (With A Father’s Heart), “Each of us can discover in Joseph the man who goes unnoticed, a daily, discreet and hidden presence an intercessor, a support and a guide in times of trouble.”

The Tablet January 22, 2021 PROSPECT HEIGHTS The nationwide “9 Days for Life” Novena, sponsored by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishop’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, has officially begun in the Diocese of Brooklyn. This year, the Novena is taking place from Jan. 21 to 29, providing parishioners with daily reflections and opportunities for prayers and actions to promote the respect of all human life. “Every year, Diocese of Brooklyn parishioners attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C. to pray for an end to the tragedy of abortion. This year, due to the pandemic, the March for Life is virtual, so attendance was not possible,” said Father Joseph Gibino, vicar for Evangelization and Catechesis. “But, here in our Diocese, we can pray in communion for the protection of all human life, either at one of our Masses or through this year’s special Novena.”

US Catholic bishops demand peace replace violence after protesters disrupt Capitol

Denver, Colo., Jul 23, 2018 / 03:47 pm (CNA).- This week, CNA says farewell to our summer intern, Lizzy Josyln. In her final week at CNA this summer, Lizzy offers “The Genius of Woman,” a four-part series of interviews and profiles, based on Pope St. John Paul II’s “Letter to Women,” and interviews with seven Catholic women from very different walks of life. This is the first piece in that series:   The “genius of woman” or the “feminine genius,” a phrase made popular by Pope St. John Paul II’s 1995 “Letter to Women,” can be summarized as the distinct social and interpersonal strengths of women, offered generously to the world.
