Many coaches at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table’s Press Luncheon were eager to highlight the dedication of their student-athletes this season especially those who are playing multiple sports at the same time.
“I see first hand the things these kids have to go through everyday, and it really is a testament to the athletes and the sacrifices that they’re making for their teams,” said Dos Pueblos softball coach Mike Gerken. “I hope all coaches recognize the sacrifices that all of your two-sport athletes are going through right now.”

Luke Williams, the Cardinals’ No. 1 singles player, took all three of his sets, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0.
“Luke worked hard today to win his crosstown rivals and long term competitors,” Bishop Diego coach Natlee Hapeman said. “With every shot calculated, his well-played strategy came out on top today.”
In the set pitting the two No. 1 players “was a well-fought match,” Bryant said, “but Luke started a little faster and Austin had to play catch up, but came up short, losing 6-3.”
Max Stone went 1-1 in singles for Carpinteria, and senior Steven Bengry 1-0.
In addition to sweeping his singles sets for Bishop Diego, Hapeman said “Luke’s inspirational speech” motivated teammates Thomas Coleman and Daniel Kagramanov to two set wins in doubles.
