The mild, moderate, fence-sitting of Keir Starmer’s Labour Party that London’s political and media elite love so much does not seem to be resonating with the electorate AS a disclaimer before I continue, at the time of writing this no results had been announced in the Scottish election. A small box arrives, addressed to me. “Our children deserve a future,” it proclaims on the outside. What a moving thought! Why has no one ever said that before?
Inside the box is a free mug. It is emblazoned with a take-off of a bank note. “10 years,” it says in the space usually reserved for £10, “to climate catastrophe”. Where real notes say, “Bank of England”, this one says, “Barclays Bank”, adding “Barclays must divest from the destruction of our planet now”. An enclosed card calls Barclays “Sharklays”.

The Conservatives’ chairman on Sunday night sought to dampen expectations of the party’s performance in the “Super Thursday” elections, warning “we are likely to lose a significant number of seats” this week.
Amanda Milling, Co-Chairman of the Tory party, cautioned that while they are “starting from a very high base” for this week’s local and mayoral elections, having outperformed in the last set of local elections, they anticipate a “post-Corbyn bounce and a Lib Dem revival”.
