Developer asks Flint for tax break to build new apartments near Hurley, Atwood Stadium

FLINT, MI A developer is asking the city for a tax break to build new apartments for low- and moderate-income renters in the area of Hurley Medical Center and Atwood Stadium, a potential $14-million investment by the same company that built The Marketplace townhome project on the old YWCA property in downtown Flint.
The proposed five-story Flushing Place Apartments would be built on Stevenson Street, just south of Flushing Road, with 60 apartments and 3,800 square feet of first-floor commercial space, according to plans submitted to the city by Flushing Place LDHA LP and PK Construction Companies LLC.

FLINT, MI A job fair centered on filling open positions for entry-level, skilled trades and managerial positions at local manufacturers is scheduled to take place next month.
Job seekers can explore all the open positions at the virtual Manufacturing Career Fair from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, May 10.
The economic rebound that’s underway has a number of local manufacturers in search of talent to fill various job openings, according to a press release from the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance.
The participating employers include Avancez Assembly LLC; Domico Med-Device; Fernco, Inc.; General Motors-Flint Assembly; HIROTEC America, Inc.; Miller Industries; Peckham, Inc.; Richfield Industries; Rolls Mechanical; and more, per the release.

FLINT, MI The Our Town Gift Match program aimed at helping small businesses impacted by COVID-19 throughout Flint and Genesee County is back for a second round.
Consumers Energy is partnering again with the Flint & Genesee Chamber, a division of the Flint & Genesee Group, to encourage additional support and patronage of area restaurants, event venues and locally owned retail shops. And this time, a third member – the Michigan Municipal League Foundation – has joined the partnership, according to a Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce press release.
