Community leader was instrumental in founding Behrend s plastics engineering technology program February 12, 2021
ERIE, Pa. Erie businessman Joe Prischak, a longtime friend of Penn State Behrend and a community leader who was instrumental in founding the college’s plastics engineering technology program, has been named to the Plastics Hall of Fame. An induction ceremony has been scheduled for May 16.
Membership in the Hall of Fame is the highest honor the Plastics Industry Association bestows upon an individual. New members are added every three years.
“Joe Prischak is a pioneer and a visionary who understood from the start how plastics would revolutionize the design and packaging of products we use every day,” Behrend Chancellor Ralph Ford said. “His legacy in the plastics industry, the Erie community and at Penn State Behrend will last for generations.”

DURHAM Don Paulson, founder and chairman of Paulson Training Programs, Inc., has been inducted into the 2021 Plastics Hall of Fame. He has been recognized for his outstanding contribution to the plastics industry and specifically for his decades of research and technical training. The Plastics Hall of Fame was established by the Plastics Academy in 1972 to recognize those Americans who, through their dedication, work, and accomplishment, have contributed most significantly to the growth and success of the plastics industry.
Paulson, who holds engineering degrees from both the University of Minnesota and Villanova University, has nine U.S. and foreign patents. He is being recognized for his life-long dedication and contribution to the research and education of the industry. Paulson was previously honored with SPE’s Lifetime Engineering and Technical Achievement Awar

Welcome to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. For 2021, the United Nations has set the day to focus on the role women are playing in fighting COVID-19 but also notes that the pandemic has put extra work onto women who typically handle more of the burdens of childcare and remote schooling. [It is] particularly affecting those at the early stages of their career, and thus contributing to widening the existing gender gap in science and revealing the gender disparities in the scientific system, which need to be addressed by new policies, initiatives and mechanisms to support women and girls in science, the UN said.

Detroit Applications are being accepted for the Bill Bregar Memorial Scholarship, which was established on behalf of the Bregar family by Crain Communications and the Society of Plastics Engineers Foundation. This fund supports aspiring journalists and business communicators in plastics and manufacturing industries.
Bregar, who died in 2020, spent 31 years reporting on the plastics industry and joined Crain Communications
Plastics News as a staff reporter shortly before the publication s launch in 1989.
The application for his 2021 scholarship is open on the SPE Foundation website until April 1, 2021.
