A PANTRY that only opened three months ago is now feeding around 500 people every week. The community has shown its support for the Sturminster Newton-based venture through donations of both food and money, with the latest online fundraiser exceeding £5,000. This is a scheme however that needs regular donations to survive. From young families to pensioners, The Vale Pantry has been busy supporting residents across the Blackmore Vale during the Covid-19 pandemic, including the two latest lockdowns, through discounted food shops. After just a few months of success the team hopes to expand the pantry to Shaftesbury when an affordable or free premises is available.
New Milton Health Centre in Spencer Road. Picture: Google Maps/ Street View A MEDICAL partnership of GPs in the New Forest will have administered 4,000 coronavirus vaccination doses by tomorrow. Patients from the surgeries that make up the Coastal Medical Partnership are receiving their first jabs from the New Milton Health Centre in Spencer Road. This includes patients from the Arnewood, Barton, New Milton Health Centre and Webb-Peploe surgeries after the group of practices was named as one of the early adopting sites for vaccinations. A further 1,000-plus vaccinations were also carried out in one day in north Dorset. But the Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group has refused to reveal how many have been carried out across the county in total.
The three new sites are the Sturminster Newton Medical Centre, The Digby Hall and the Whitecliff Surgery. Sites have been developed by primary care networks (groups of local GP practices) who have worked together to develop detailed plans to deliver Covid-19 vaccinations in their wider community locations. Primary care networks have been working round the clock to rapidly to redesign their sites and put in place safe processes to deliver vaccines. Dr Simone Yule, a GP and Clinical Director for the Blackmore Vale partnership, said “I am delighted and relieved that we can start the new year with such good news for people in north Dorset and am delighted that we can begin to offer those who are most at risk their vaccination to protect against Covid-19.
