Photo credit: Google street view A DOORS and windows manufacturer has been ordered to pay nearly £40,000 after a worker broke both of his legs and was crushed while moving a 3,000kg stack of pallets. On January 9, 2020, a worker, with two other employees of Sovereign Group Ltd in Nelson, was trying to move a stack of three stillages in the despatch area. Whilst manoeuvring the stillages away from the aisle, the staff members attempted to push them into a gap. At that point, the stack of stillages, which weighed three tonnes, fell over onto the employee breaking both of his legs and causing ligament damage.

Fleetwood pensioner accused of causing cyclist s death by careless driving appears in court

Updated Tuesday, 25th May 2021, 2:10 pm Eric Warburton, 80, of Lower Lune Street, Fleetwood, was charged after Roy Leadbetter, 86, also of Fleetwood, was hurt in a crash with a car in Dock Street last October. Blackpool Magistrates Court was told Mr Leadbetter died in hospital 10 days later, after contracting Covid and pneumonia. Warburton s lawyer Gerry Coyle did not enter a plea on his client’s behalf and told the court this morning any future trial would have to examine Mr Leadbetter’s cause of death. Blackpool Magistrates Court. Warburton was granted bail ahead of a crown court appearance on June 23. Mr Leadbetter died at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on Sunday, October 25, a family announcement said.
