Billings admins hope summer classes will bring remote learners back up to speed Masks no longer required for students and staff MTN News / Mitch Lagge By: Mitch Lagge and last updated 2021-06-22 17:30:48-04 BILLINGS — Billings public school students in 3rd through 8th grades who took remote classes in the 2021-22 school year generally saw a drop in reading and math proficiency and less growth in the subjects compared to their in-person counterparts, according to data presented by Roger Dereszynski, assessment coordinator for Billings School District 2 at a Monday board meeting. Administrators anticipated that students would have some catching up to do after the COVID-19 pandemic brought disruptions to the tail end of one school year and the entirety of another. As a result, district staff have embarked on the first-ever offering of K-12th grade summer school to help students get back up to speed.
