WWE releases Samoa Joe, Billie Kay and several more superstars (Updating)

WWE has issued the following statement about several superstars being released:
“WWE has come to terms on a release of Billie Kay, Mickie James, Chelsea Green, Tucker, Kalisto and Wesley Blake as of today April 15, 2021.
We wish them the best in all of their future endeavors.”
UPDATE: WWE’s list appears to be a work in progress. Here is the current list of superstars who have been released, which includes several more names in addition to those from the original announcement:

There are a few surprising names on this list of roster cuts. Billie Kay stands out as a superstar who received the most television time from this group, and she also is the only one who just competed on the main card of

Just after announcing the releases of several wrestlers, the company announced they’ve released Samoa Joe and Bo Dallas.
Bo Dallas hasn’t been used in over a year. Joe, who was put on the sidelines due to concussions, had been an announcer for WWE Raw. He was replaced by Corey Graves just on Monday night. );
WWE issued the following statement:

WWE Reportedly Releases More Superstars

WWE has also released Kalisto, Tucker, Chelsea Green and Wesley Blake.
As noted earlier at this link, WWE announced that Mickie James and Billie Kay have been released, wishing them the best in their future endeavors.
There is no word on what exactly led to the departures, but it looks like WWE is doing another round of post-WrestleMania roster cuts.
Kalisto last competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on last week’s SmackDown. He had been with WWE since May 2013.
Tucker also last competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on last week’s SmackDown. He had been with WWE since late 2013.

John Laurinaitis, WWE s head of talent relations, has been making the calls to talent and citing budget cuts as the reason for the WWE releases, according to sources.
Additionally, Sapp pointed out that the releases come exactly one year after numerous other superstars were released by the company, which WWE cited, at the time, as budget cuts in relation to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Matt Cardona, who performed under the ring name
Zack Ryder before being among more than a dozen wrestlers released last April, also acknowledged the two mass releases taking place on the same day, while also crediting Green, his fianceé, as a f star amid news of her release.
