Peyton Royce vs. Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship:
This was a pretty solid match, Peyton got in way more offense than I was expecting. Peyton slowed the match down, and as a result, had Asuka at a bit of a disadvantage. Asuka would end up making a comeback, and Asuka would submit Peyton with the Asuka Lock to retain the title. Afterwards, Billie Kay would attack Asuka, but Ember Moon would come to the save, planting the seeds for an Asuka/Ember match at TakeOver: Orlando while simultaneously putting in place a mini feud with the Iconic Duo and Ember Moon. The week afterwards, Peyton and Billie would do a video on WWE’s website where they were trying to find a spot for their well deserved Year End Award, but ran into another confrontation with Ember.

WWE veteran Mickie James was on a recent episode of
“It’s been a whirlwind. If you know me, I’m very sarcastic in a loving way. I don’t feel, at least I hope I’m not, hateful I guess would be the word,” James described. “I had two boxes because I apparently had a lot of stuff there. I kind of, in that moment, was like, ‘Oh s t, they still do this? That’s kind of funny.’ It was in a space of you know how when you feel you first leave, and you’re just like, ‘Oh, that kind of kind of sucks,’ but there’s always so many things.
In a recent interview on Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette, Mickie James discussed her WWE release, Eva Marie’s return to WWE, and much more. You can read Mickie James’ comments below.
Mickie James on her WWE release: “It was like, ‘Oh budget cuts and they seem to be doing very well,’ but at the same time, I was like they always have that cleanup after WrestleMania. They always do it. It’s a traditional thing. For me, I didn’t really not forsee it coming. I’ve been in this space for so long, and I’ve been sitting injured and hanging out and trying out these other roles. I felt like I was in this weird space anyways. I wasn’t so shocked for myself. I was pretty shocked about Billie Kay. I was like that’s weird, I didn’t see that one coming. I think they’re [Kay and Peyton Royce] gonna thrive, they’re gonna do amazing. And Chelsea [Green], she’s so funny. She’s great.”
Shawn Spears is understandably keen on bringing the former IIconics into AEW, and spoke about the possibility in a new interview. Spears, who is the husband of Cassie Lee (the former Peyton Royce), told Inside the Ropes that he “selfishly” wants to see Lee and Jessie McKay (aka Billie Kay) join the company.
“Yeah, yeah,” he said. “So I think, obviously, they would assume that that would be the plan that because I work there, her husband works there, that it’s just, naturally she’s going to… Those questions are above my pay grade. I don’t have anything to do with the hiring process. Selfishly, of course! Why would I not want my wife working there? Not only do I feel it’d be great to see her on a weekly basis with me, but what her and Jess can offer our women’s division and the entertainment world as a whole is just second to none. You’ve seen how entertaining they are. I don’t need to explain to you what they bring to the table, and I don’t think I would

Billie Kay vs. Liv Morgan:
This was a decent match, Liv ended up getting an upset win over Billie, leading a match to be booked for the next week, Iconic Duo vs. Liv and a mystery partner.
Iconic Duo vs. Liv Morgan and Ember Moon:
Ember ended up being a surprise partner, but it ended up doing nothing to help Liv, as the Iconic Duo would end up winning this match.
Peyton Royce vs. Ember Moon vs. Liv Morgan:
This was a number one contender’s match, whoever won would get a title shot against Asuka the next week on NXT. This was a pretty good match, it got some time, and Peyton ended up winning, and would get a title shot against the Empress Of Tomorrow.
