Albert Roux, who has died aged 85, did more to encourage and foster Britain’s restaurant sector than any other chef working in the UK. The roll-call of names that passed through the kitchens of his Mayfair restaurant, Le Gavroche, which he opened with his late brother Michel in 1967, is the classic who’s who of the culinary cheffing firmament. It includes Marco Pierre White, Gordon Ramsay, Pierre Koffmann, Phil Howard, Marcus Wareing and Rowley Leigh, each of whom in turn passed on what they had learned from Albert to so many others.
He was firmly in the business of unapologetic luxury. “We knew nothing of the British indifference to food,” he once told me, of his early years in Britain, “because we had only ever cooked for the rich.” Both brothers had arrived in the country from Paris, as private chefs for the aristocracy, Michel for the Rothschilds, Albert for the Cazalets. The Roux family has announced the sad passing of Albert Roux, who had been unwell for a while, at the age of 85 on 4 January 2021.
Chef, restaurateur, author and founder of the Roux Scholarship, Albert is credited, along with his late brother Michel Roux, with launching London s culinary revolution with the opening of Le Gavroche in 1967.
His son, Michel Roux Jr, said Albert s love of life and passion for making people happy through his food will be greatly missed: He was a mentor for so many people in the hospitality industry, and a real inspiration to budding chefs, including me.

The NCAA passed two key pandemic-related rules earlier this year that will make this offseason very intriguing. First, every player earned an extra year of eligibility to make up for shortened, delayed or even canceled seasons. That means all 17 Gophers who should have exhausted their eligibility this season have a do-over in 2021. Second, a one-time transfer rule is in place, allowing for immediate eligibility for any first-time transfers instead of having to sit out a season.

Moments after the Gophers declined to participate in the 2020 bowl season, Gophers cornerback Benjamin St-Juste declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. Thank you Minnesota! the starting cornerback wrote on Twitter. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to represent the University of Minnesota.
St-Juste was a late transfer from Michigan ahead of last season, a rare graduate transfer with three years of eligibility. The Canada native quickly became one of the top players in the secondary, starting along with Coney Durr. In two seasons with the Gophers, St-Juste made 55 tackles and 12 pass breakups.
Rashod Bateman opted out for the second time a couple weeks ago, making two Gophers declared for the upcoming draft. And there might be more to come. Gophers coach P.J. Fleck has said he expects most of the seniors to return with their extra year of eligibility from the pandemic. Cornerback Phil Howard and receiver Clay Geary are two that h
