Van Holst has come under fire in the past for comments and stances on affordable housing, such as doggedly pushing to use huts for homeless Londoners and asking council to nix a proposed affordable housing development due to neighbourhood fears it would “harm the area.”

“It’s all those things that caused us a lot of angst when we saw this,” general manager Kelly Paleczny said of the bike and bus lane designs.
“Whose liability is it if one our blind transit riders steps out to try to board a bus in front of a bike?”
Rooth urged the commission to gather more information by asking a city hal bureaucrat to attend the next meeting to explain the design of the integrated stops. Adding to the concern, transit officials were told the east London bike lanes will be used as a template for those built in other parts of the city in future.
