MISS (from reader George Carter): To U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa and his office staff. I phoned his Chico office asking that the representative join the effort to impeach the president. I spoke in particular of the president’s Jan. 6 speech egging on the mob and directing them to continue the march on the Capitol. I heard a smirk in her voice as the staff member wondered why I didn’t also suggest invoking the 25th Amendment. I was serious. She plainly wasn’t. Too bad that our representative in Congress belittled a voter’s voice. And too bad that I failed to challenge her disdain for a voter’s concern.

MISS (from reader Alice Root): to the two Nevada City police officers that were unmasked while responding to the Nevada City Revival stay at home protesters on Dec. 11. And this is after the Nevada City Council ordinance was passed Dec. 9 to fine non-mask wearers. Isn’t the police motto “To serve and PROTECT”? This is the second “miss” for Nevada City police since the Aug. 9 police inaction and failure to protect BLM protesters in Nevada City. Chief Ellis, please explain.

And to Motherlode Vet Hospital for working on Buddy the dog for hours to save him. Heroes, all. HIT (from reader George Carter): Home for the holidays is a fervent wish for many, particularly those with no place to call home. In Saturday’s The Union, Lorraine Larson put it well saying “our homes have become the center of more than we ever thought they would or could be.” That amplifies the contribution to our community provided by Habitat for Humanity. Helping families have a “decent, safe, affordable home” is what Habitat is all about. The need and the work continues, thanks to our generous community.
