AUBURN The City Council is poised to adopt a citywide equity policy this week, which would establish a set of goals to guide the work of Auburn policymakers.
The policy stems from months of work between the cities of Lewiston and Auburn and a local coalition, City Spirit L/A. The coalition developed an equity statement that commits the cities to addressing inequity and building a community “where people of all cultures and identities can thrive.”
According to City Manager Phil Crowell, the vote Tuesday will accept the equity statement and establish a policy “to put the statement into action.”
The city of Auburn has put seven city-owned properties up for sale, in the latest step of an aggressive new economic development strategy.
The property six lots and a historic church are downtown, in the New Auburn area and a nearby corridor. Both are spots the city said are highly desirable to developers.
The move comes after Auburn officials in November announced a new focus on economic development and restructured its city economic development department. In January, Mayor Jason Levesque also invited developers to build 2,000 market-rate homes in the city.
Levesque and other officials hope to send a message to developers that Auburn is ready to grow, a news release about the property listings this week said.
The site, to be run by Central Maine Medical Center, would be the first in central Maine, after others have been announced in Bangor and greater Portland.

As a result, Nova Scotia will be skipped by Ontario s Scott McDonald. Due to work and family priorities, our skipper Jamie has made the difficult decision not to join us at the Calgary Bubble, which the team 100 per cent supports, the team said on Sunday in a Facebook post. After exploring player options within NS and throughout the country, we are excited to announce that Scott McDonald (2019 Brier contender and WCT regular) will be joining the team at the skip position for
