PARKERSBURG Wood County officials have been in contact with the owners of a house on Crawford Street and are moving forward with having the county tear down the dilapidated structure.
Last week, the commission discussed the property at 111 Crawford St. after emergency crews had to respond and cut a hole in the roof and use heavy equipment to remove someone who was in health-related distress. The person weighed a lot and crews could not remove him through the house because of access and structural issues.
Wood County Compliance Officer Sarah Robinson and Wood County Engineer Maria Hardy were on the scene to assess the condition of the home. Both determined it was not fit for human habitation and believed the county needed to take action to have the property cleaned up and the house torn down.
