Philippine Navy (PN) chief vice admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo has confirmed that the service will receive three fast-attack interdictor craft missile (FAIC-M) boats next year.
The three boats are the first of eight FAIC-Ms being built by Israel Shipyards.
The Philippines News agency (PNA) reported that the deal is said to be worth around $503m (PHP10bn).

The Philippine Navy (PN) will receive three of a total of 8 fast-attack interdictor craft missile (FAIC-M) boats in early 2022 from Israel Shipyards in a deal worth around PHP10 billion ($503 million).
PN chief, Vice Adm. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo confirmed that three of a total of eight fast-attack interdictor craft missile (FAIC-M) boats, in two lots are scheduled to be delivered starting the first quarter of 2022, Philippines News agency reported.
This came after Israel Shipyards released a statement saying it has awarded a contract to supply Shaldag Mark V fast patrol boats to an Asian country. These boats can interdict surface threats and launch non-line-of-sight (NLOS) missiles.
DPWH to conduct weekend road reblocking

PASIG CITY, May 14 The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to conduct reblocking and repairs on several roads in Metro Manila this weekend.
The road reblocking, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) told the
PIA-NCR, will begin on Friday, May 14 at 11 p.m. until May 17.
The Department of Public Works and Highways, the MMDA said, will undertake road reblocking and repairs starting 11 p.m. tonight, on the following roads:
1. EDSA (Northbound) near corner Kaingin Road, Quezon City, northbound
2. EDSA (Southbound), opposite of Trinoma Mall, second lane from sidewalk, southbound
Philippines logs 6,784 new COVID-19 cases

Manila [Philippines], May 14 (ANI/Xinhua): The Philippines Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday 6,784 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,131,467.
The death toll climbed to 18,958 after 137 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said.
The Philippines, with a population about 110 million, has tested over 11.6 million people since the outbreak in January 2020.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stressed the need to expand the coronavirus testing to detect and isolate the infected. There is a need for local government units to do house-to-house to test individuals with symptoms or close contacts to ramp up the detection of individuals and immediately isolating them, she said in an online briefing.

Nueva Segovia Archbishop Marlo Peralta made the announcement during the recent opening of the church’s Jubilee Door and three years since the parish was declared Archdiocesan Shrine of Sto. Cristo Milagroso.
A Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines News post said, the formal elevation rites will be held on September 10 this year, to coincide with the feast of St. Nicholas.
The parish is the first minor basilica in the archdiocese and the second in the Ilocos region.
The designation is granted to churches around the world in recognition of their special pastoral and liturgical significance in Catholic life, and their closeness to the Pope, the CBCP said.
