The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to help local businesses and startups transition into the digital economy through the development and conduct of technology-based training programs.
Signatories to the MOU were PCCI Pres. Amb. Benedicto Yujuico, DTI Sec. Ramon Lopez, PCCI Innovation Center Managing Director Mr. Miguel Yujuico, PCCI Innovation Committee Director Mr. Perry Ferrer.
To prepare the Filipino youth and workforce for Industry 4.0, PCCI and DTI will provide learning opportunities on frontier technologies such as Mobile Application Development, Cloud Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, and Blockchain Technology to name a few.

Previously divided over calls for hard lockdown, the business sector now stand behind Malacanang decision to return to hard lockdown to avert the possibility of surge in Delta variant cases in the country.
“Business is against lockdown because it is disruptive and harmful to the economy. But if the Department of Health finds it necessary due to unexpected surge of the delta variant then business will comply,” said the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a statement.
PCCI, however, said the biggest challenge is to regain the stalled momentum, sustain the recovery trajectory, keep the workers, and meet fixed operating expenses.

JULY 30, 2021, MANILA The national MSME Resilience Core Group (RCG), co-chaired by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), with the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) and other partners, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the disaster resilience of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) during an online event last July 29.
More than 250 participants from the MSME sector, government and local representatives, academe, and the general public attended the 2021 MSME Resilience E-Forum with the theme “Trabahong Sigurado, Negosyong Matatag, Kabuhayang Nagpapatuloy.”
Two-week hard lockdown pushed

BUSINESS LEADERS are supporting a two-week lockdown to prevent the spread of the more contagious Delta coronavirus variant, but requested for more time to prepare before restrictions are tightened.
This as a group of health researchers on Wednesday urged the government to reimpose stricter quarantine rules in the Philippine capital region and nearby provinces as early as Aug. 1 to prevent a possible Delta-fueled surge in infections.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Metro Manila could go as high as 5,000 a day by the latter part of August if a “circuit-breaking” or an early hard lockdown would not be enforced in the capital region for two weeks starting Aug. 1, OCTA Research fellow Fredegusto P. David told a virtual press briefing. Metro Manila averages 1,000 new COVID-19 infections a day.
