Instead of Cha-cha, Duterte urged to certify ‘ayuda for all’ bill as urgent
MANILA – Lawmakers under the Makabayan Coalition are calling for the prioritization of the passing of a new law that aims to provide financial assistance to those affected by the pandemic.
“We are pleading to President Duterte to certify the bill as urgent if he still has concern and love for Filipinos so that this economic stimulus will be given to everyone,” ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro in a virtual briefing on Friday.

File photo May 30, 2021 ON MARCH 25, 2021, the bill creating the Metropolitan Davao Development Authority (MDDA) was passed on the third and final reading following the deliberations of the House of Representatives.
The bill, which aims to focus on the socio-economic opportunities for the entire Davao Region, was hurried and unhampered amid the ongoing crisis brought about by the Covid-19.
Davao City Third District Representative Isidro Ungab, proponent of the bill, bared this proposal during his oath-taking speech on June 21, 2019, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Ungab said his proposal for a metropolitan area would further unite all Davao provinces into one region.
“We are told, ‘Stay home and stay safe. Wash your hands regularly,’ but the displaced Meranaws live in cramped makeshift spaces without sufficient water supply. Those whose homes are at ground zero still could not return.”

Foreign businessmen have strongly urged Congress to pass at the earliest possible time the amendments of the Public Service Act (PSA), which seeks to open more economic activities in the country to higher foreign equity, as they vowed to promote to foreign investors in the Philippines once the critical economic reforms are passed.
The Joint Foreign Chambers (JFC) of Commerce of the Philippines, which is composed of 14 foreign chambers, issued a statement as the following the Senate commenced the plenary debate on SB 2094 or the Amendments of the PSA. The House approved its version of the bill on March 10, 2020.
