RYEDALE District Council (RDC) is saving 36 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year by putting energy-saving LED bulbs in footway lights in Malton and Norton to cut costs and help the environment. 264 LED footway lights have been installed in the two market towns saving the equivalent CO2 emissions of driving 65,090 miles – nearly three times around the world. Out of the 264 that have been replaced, 220 are now on partial lighting which means they are turned off at midnight. As part of the scheme, 22 columns have been replaced and a further eight will be replaced next year. Phillip Spurr, Programme Director for Economic Development, Business and Partnerships for RDC said:
