UFC 258 is down to 10 bouts after a flyweight matchup between Gillian Robertson and Miranda Maverick was scratched from the card when Robertson fell ill.
Robertson came down with a non-COVID related illness, the UFC announced just hours before the start of Saturday’s card, and was forced to withdraw from the event. Her coach Din Thomas told MMA Fighting her withdrawal was not related to weight-cutting, but she “got really sick” and was unable to fight.
Robertson subsequently posted on Instagram she woke up and vomited Saturday morning and her condition had not improved. She said she is “heartbroken” and apologized to Miranda for her withdrawal.

UFC 258 kicks off tomorrow and, while it hardly carries the attention and hype of a Conor McGregor fight, we could have a banger main event on our hands.
The main event features reigning welterweight champ Kamaru Usman facing off against Gilbert Burns, an unlikely title contender in some ways, but also a huge stylistic threat to Usman. Burns has torn through the welterweight division during the past couple of years and is absolutely deserving of this spot. He s one of the best jiu jitsu practitioners in the UFC

So much for Valentine s Day lovefests.
The UFC s second pay-per-view of 2021 culminated in a battle of two formerly close friends and training partners vying for welterweight gold in the promotion s initial title fight of the year.
The match between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns finally occurred after multiple delays and was placed atop a 10-bout card that was broadcast by ESPN+ from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas on Saturday.
The show was trimmed from 11 fights not long before the first punches were thrown in the 7 p.m. hour, thanks to a non-COVID illness that kept flyweight Gillian Robertson from meeting Miranda Maverick.
