Arrest: The defendant was caught outside the Spar Shop in Westfield Drive, Workington A WORKINGTON man jailed after he was caught carrying a knife outside a shop in the town has been freed on appeal. After hearing te background to the prosecution of 34-year-old Warran Bragg, a judge and two magistrates decided to suspend the six months jail term he had earlier been given.
Carlisle Crown Court heard that Bragg, of Purser Road, Salterbeck, was jailed by magistrates after they were told about the defendant being arrested outside the Spar shop in Westfield Drive, Workington, on October 21 last year. He had denied the offence but was convicted after a trial.
Workington man downloaded scores of indecent images of children
A man has admitted downloading scores of indecent images of children on two devices.
Martyn Fletcher, 45, was warned he must now sign the sex offendersâ register after committing two crimes between January 20 2017, and May 17 last year.
During a hearing at Carlisle Crown Court, Fletcher pleaded guilty to two offences of making indecent photographs of children.
Some 132 of these were located on an HP laptop, the court was told while a further 13 were discovered on a Samsung mobile phone.
All are classed in category C – the most serious being category A.
Recorder Philip Grundy adjourned the case and directed that a pre-sentence report should be provided by a probation officer.
A FORTY-five-year-old Workington man has been warned that he could be jailed after he admitted two charges of downloading indecent photos of children. Martyn Fletcher, who committed the offences between January 20, 2017, and May 17 of last year, was told by a judge at Carlisle Crown Court that he will now have his name put on to the Sex Offenders Register. The defendant, of Bowness Court, Workington, admitted downloading 132 indecent child images on his HP laptop computer. Those images were classified as Category C - the least serious class of indecent child images. The second charge he admitted related to 13 Category C moving images which he downloaded on a Samsung phone.

Robert David Ashbridge, 34, of Seven Acres, Parton, near Whitehaven, pleaded guilty at Carlisle Crown Court to dangerous driving in Cleator Moor. He also admitted driving whilst disqualified and having no insurance. Ashbridge’s dangerous driving occurred in Ennerdale Road, Leconfield Street and on the Leconfield Industrial Estate on November 3.
