Redmond Airport receives $6 million in American Rescue Plan relief funding
Prineville Airport receives $32,000
WASHINGTON (KTVZ) – Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., said Friday that airports in Redmond and Prineville have earned a combined $6.1 million from the American Rescue Plan Act for operations, concessions, personnel and sanitation.
“Rural airports serve as critical connectors for every nook and cranny of Oregon, and ARPA dollars will serve to benefit the local economy as more and more people travel to experience Central Oregon’s world-class recreation,” Wyden said in a news release. “I’m gratified that Redmond and Prineville have secured this federal support to combat the pandemic-induced decreases in revenue, so that we can continue to support these airports as essential resources to the region.”
Firefighters are responding to nine small lightning-ignited wildfires Thursday night near Oakridge.
The cluster of fires have been dubbed the Middle Fork Complex, according to Willamette National Forest.
A type 2 fire crew and aviation resources have been ordered in an effort to put the blazes out, forest officials said late Thursday.
The fires range in sizes from less than an acre to 10 acres. The incidents are in the Fall Creek, Hills Creek Reservoir and north of Huckleberry areas near Oakridge. Two incidents are close to private lands and are our current priorities, the national forest said.
Around 100 lightning strikes hit the Cascade Crest east of Eugene on Monday. Fire crews responded to 17 small fires following that lightning event, Willamette National Forest said previously. It s unclear if the Middle Fork Complex is part of that batch of fires.
