BNP announces nationwide demo for Feb 17 Staff Correspondent 14th February, 2021 10:14:43 Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced countrywide demonstration for February 17 protesting against a move to cancel the gallantry award of the party founder Ziaur Rahman. The decision was taken at a virtual meeting of BNP standing committee held on Saturday with the party acting chairman Tarique Rahman in the chair. BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday at a press conference at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital announced the demonstration programme. Jatiya Muktijoddha Council on February 9 at a meeting took a decision to cancel the Bir Uttam gallantry award of Ziaur Rahman and some others.

Police charge baton on BNP rally at Press Club Police charged baton on the BNP activists at a rally organised in front of National Press Club on Saturday protesting the government’s decision to strip its founder Ziaur Rahman’s gallantry title of ‘Bir Uttam’. The clash started just after the party’s standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain began his speech around 12pm. The protesters retaliated by hurling brickbats at law enforcers. BNP leaders Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amanullah Aman and Habib-un-Nabi Khan took shelter inside the Press Club during the clash. The party claimed that police have arrested some of their activists from the spot. Some leaders and activists of the party were also injured in the police attack, it claimed.
