A new USDA Forest Service and Colorado State Forest Service survey finds that spruce beetles continue to be the most damaging pest in Rocky Mountain forests.
Survey manager Brian Howell said the mountain pine beetle outbreak peaked around 2010 and has run its course. But now they re seeing a similar problem with the spruce beetle. We sort of have some fronts of activity, if you can think of the beetle marching at a far slower pace but not unlike a firefront, sort of moving through the forest, he said. We ve seen just kind of a continuation of that activity in Wyoming and Colorado.
SASKATOON An advocate for homeless people in Prince Albert says removing benches at a downtown bus station doesn’t address the roots causes of crime. In a news release, the Prince Albert Police Service said it’s working with city officials to look at environmental or landscaping options to minimize crime at the transfer station – it comes after a bus driver was allegedly assaulted earlier this month. The city’s communications manager, Kiley Bear, said they removed the benches in the shelter immediately “to discourage people from spending a lot of time in the area.” “We are open to other ideas, but this is the only one we are considering right now,” she said.

As first reported by Brian Howell, the Colorado Buffaloes have chosen to remain idle this weekend, choosing to finish the regular season after five games.

This decision follows what has happened with the Pac-12 Championship. The title game was set to be between USC and Washington, while division runners-up Colorado and Oregon played each other. However, Washington canceled their participation on account of virus issues, so Oregon moved into the title game. That left Colorado without a game to play, unless USC did not pass COVID protocol.
