A bid by the owners of Canterbury Park Racecourse to decommission a car park previously slated for apartments has sparked fears the recreational land will be developed following the end of a 10-year ban on the trackâs sale.
The Australian Turf Club said it had no immediate plans to sell the track or King Street car park, promised to Mirvac in 2017, but a recent notification from Canterbury-Bankstown City Council prompted warnings from state and federal MPs against any attempt to spot rezone the land for residential use.
Members of the Canterbury Racecourse Action Group at the car park the Australian Turf Club has applied to decommission.

A Valencia man was arrested Thursday morning in connection to the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl at a Castaic house party, according to law enforcement officials.
Christopher King, 19, was arrested under the charge code of 261(A)(2)PC, which defines rape as “an act of sexual intercourse accomplished with a person not the spouse of the perpetrator” and where the act is done “against a person’s will by means of force, violence, duress, menace or fear of immediate and unlawful bodily injury on the person or another.”
The charge stems from a Castaic house party on 30000 block of Romero Canyon Road in August 2020, when the victim, a 15-year-old girl, was allegedly assaulted by the suspect at a party with approximately 100 people present, according to Sgt. Brian Hudson, of the Special Victims Bureau.
