Cleveland homers twice off All-Star Bassitt, beat Athletics

OAKLAND, Calif. Bradley Zimmer had three hits including a home run on All-Star Chris Bassitt’s first pitch, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Oakland Athletics 4-2 on Sunday.
Daniel Johnson, who grew up about 30 minutes north of the Coliseum and had a group of family and friends in attendance, connected for his first career home run and made a sparkling defensive play to help the Indians win their fifth in six games.

OAKLAND, CA Bradley Zimmer was called upon to bat lead off with Cesar Hernandez receiving the day off, and he made a statement. The Cleveland center fielder jumped on the first pitch of the game, sending it over the center field wall. Zimmer ripped a 2-out RBI single in the top half of the 9th inning to give the Indians the all important insurance run. Bullpen veteran Bryan Shaw shut the door on the Indians to secure a 4-2 win over the Athletics, taking the three game weekend set.

Right-hander Cal Quantrill celebrated a homecoming with five strong innings and Franmil Reyes smacked his 15th home run of the season Saturday afternoon, lifting the visiting Cleveland Indians to a 3-2 win over the Oakland Athletics.
Less than 24 hours after watching a late lead turn into a walk-off defeat, Indians reliever James Karinchak worked into and out of a ninth-inning jam to protect a narrow lead en route to Cleveland s fourth win in its last five games sandwiching the All-Star break.
Right-hander Frankie Montas (8-8) limited Cleveland to two runs on six hits in six innings, but took the loss. He walked one and struck out seven.
