Meyer, who was named head coach on Jan. 14, had not formally announced any assistant coach hires up until Thursday, but the wait is now over. Meyer emphasized the importance of hiring a strong staff during his first press conference with the Jaguars. First of all, I’ve got to get a great staff, not a good staff, a great staff. And for this hire, experience is a watchword.
Darrell Bevell, a 21-year NFL veteran coach who spent the last 14 seasons as a coordinator in the league, has been named the Jaguars offensive coordinator.
The Jaguars announced the move Thursday along with eight other offensive assistants: Passing game coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, tight ends Tyler Bowen, offensive quality control Quinton Ganther, offensive assistant Will Harriger, wide receivers Sanjay Lal, running backs Bernie Parmalee, offensive line George Warhop and assistant offensive line Todd Washington.
The Jaguars on Thursday also named Joe Cullen defensive coordinator and Brian Schneider special teams coordinator. They named Urban Meyer the sixth head coach in franchise history on January 14.
