Lawless Shadow First In Return | Standardbred Canada

With racing in Ontario still shut down, Dr. Ian Moore has shipped 2020 O Brien Award winner Lawless Shadow to Scioto Downs, and the pacing colt emerged victorious in his 2021 pari-mutuel debut. Sent the odds-on favourite in a $14,000 overnight event, Lawless Shadow landed on the lead past a :27.1 opening quarter as Caribbean King revved off the pylons from fourth and dashed to the lead passing the stands first time. Lawless Shadow yielded for the pocket before a :55.3 half and remained tightly in tow behind Caribbean King while the rest of the field lost ground to three-quarters in 1:23.2. Driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. began to angle Lawless Shadow from second into the final turn and hit another gear straightening for the finish, sliding by Caribbean King under minimal urging to win by a length in 1:51.1. Lous A Pansy finished third, three lengths behind, with Mcfreely taking fourth.

While he showed his usual talent, there was something different about 2019 Horse of the Year Forbidden Trade in his Saturday morning qualifying effort at The Meadowlands. During an 11-dash card of qualifiers at The Big M, one qualifying event definitely contained the most star power despite being reduced to a three-horse field. The group of older trotters included 2019 Hambletonian winner and Canada s Horse of the Year Forbidden Trade, 2020 Hambletonian winner and U.S. Three-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year Ramona Hill, and multiple world record holder and two-time divisional champion stateside Amigo Volo. All three of these horses were qualifying for the second time in 2021, with all three finishing back of When Dovescry in a 1:56.4 qualifier last Friday.

Crown Champs Slated To Qualify | Standardbred Canada

As stakes season rapidly approaches, some of harness racing s most talented athletes including five defending Breeders Crown champions are among the 102 horses programmed to qualify at The Meadowlands on Friday morning (April 30). Two-time Crown winner Amigo Volo headlines a stacked field of stakes-tested trotters in the eighth qualifier on the 14-race program. A winner of nine of 15 races including the Breeders Crown, Kentucky Futurity and nearly a million dollars in his three-year-old campaign, the gelded son of Father Patrick will return from a 5-1/2-month layoff after capping his sophomore season with a decisive 1:50.2 win in the Matron Stakes at Dover Downs. Century Farroh Resurfaces | Standardbred Canada

The 2020 O Brien Award winner as Canada s Somebeachsomewhere Horse of the Year, Century Farroh made his much-anticipated return to the racetrack on Friday (April 16) against a familiar face but an unfamiliar foe. Qualifying for trainer Dr. Ian Moore at Southern Oaks Training Center, Century Farroh made his five-year-old debut in a virtual match race against O Brien Award winning stablemate Tattoo Artist already a 1:52.2 winner this year. Dale Spence picked up the driving assignment behind Century Farroh, while Moore handled the lines on Tattoo Artist. Century Farroh set the fractions in the qualifier, carving out fractions of :27, :57 and 1:26.4 before sprinting home in :26.3 to trip the timer in 1:53.2. Tattoo Artist closed in :26.2 to finish a neck in arrears.
