WASHINGTON Bryce Harper s solo home run in the eighth inning against his former team was the difference in the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 victory against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.
Harper hit a 430-foot home run to left-center off Javy Guerra, his 17th, for a 5-2 lead.
The Phils held on for their third consecutive victory. They are now 11/2 games behind the division-leading New York Mets, who lost again to Miami on Tuesday.

For the fifth time this season, the Colorado Rockies completed a series sweep. All of which have come at Coors Field, but deserves to be celebrated nonetheless. It improves the Rockies to 28-16 at home and 34-47 overall. It took a solid outing from Jon Gray, three shutout innings from the bullpen and a spectacular four hit performance from Garrett Hampson to give the Rockies a comfortable four run win.

The Rockies had not given up a run in the first two games of this series and Jon Gray came into today’s game with a 3.25 home ERA. Both encouraging stats for a team trying to complete a three game sweep. However, from the Pirates perspective they were due for some offense and when Jon Gray came out a little flat in the first inning, they took advantage.
