The Trump administration lined up unprecedented bureaucratic obstacles that delayed approximately $20 billion in hurricane relief for Puerto Rico, according to an inspector general report that could be released publicly as soon as Thursday.
In a 46-page document first reported by the Washington Post early Thursday, the inspector general said it found procedural hurdles created by the White House budget office that stalled recovery aid even as watchdogs were met with efforts by Trump administration officials to obstruct their investigation into the delay by the request of Congress in 2019.
Hurricanes Irma and Maria had left Puerto Rico residents without power and clean water for months after ravaging the U.S. territory in 2017.

PHILOMATH, Ore. – A family had a close call early Thursday morning when a fire broke out in their backyard, scorching a fence and damaging their back porch.
The fire was reported around 2 a.m. in the 2100 block of Applegate Street.
Brian Montgomery said he was asleep when police came pounding on his door. Montgomery’s neighbor had spotted flames coming from a shared fence through her window. The neighbor tried to warn Montgomery herself, but when she was unsuccessful, she called police for help.

Crews from the National Weather Service are on their way to New York s Hudson Valley to assess damage from a storm that many say produced a tornado.
The storms ripped through Dutchess County just before 3 p.m., on Wednesday, April 21, leaving in its wake downed power lines, split and toppled trees, and many without electricity.
Brian Montgomery, a lead meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said specialized crews left Albany early Thursday, April 22, and are expected in the Hopewell Junction area around noon to view damage in order to determine if a tornado touched down and if so, what size.
