He wound up in Tampa, got married, raised a family and toted handhelds around Amalie Arena covering Tampa Bay Lightning games. He’s covered the Rays, the world water skiing championships in South America, Prince Harry’s Invictus Games in Orlando and everything in between.  He was going strong until a year ago when he tripped and fell. Two weeks later he was out on the links, swung a club and doubled over in pain, unrelenting pain. “It got to the point where I needed a walker to get around and was sleeping in a recliner,” said Smith.

AP FILE Modified: 4/28/2021 7:00:19 PM It’s been 15 years since a Deerfield Academy alum suited up in an NFL game, but that’s expected to change next season after this week’s 2021 NFL Draft.  Boston College tight end Hunter Long who did a postgraduate year with the Big Green in 2016 is expected to hear his name called early during the three-day event, which begins Thursday night. Long could go Friday night during either the second or third round.
