Enterprising Offaly students devise Escape Covid-19 board game

THREE enterprising Tullamore College students have devised a board game to help people fight Covid-19 in a fun and educational way.
The trio, Geordi O Meara, Brian Dempsey and Sean Conway came up with the idea for the board game as part of their Transition Year mini-company enterprise project.
The students formed the GBS Games mini-company which manufactured the board game, appropriately entitled “Escape Covid-19”. The board game is now available for just €10.
Speaking to the Tribune this week, the trio said they “brainstormed ideas, hoping to create an effective business for a Covid-19 friendly environment.”

When Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo filed an official notice last Friday that he has entered job negotiations with Northeastern University, his alma mater, his action seemed to most to set the stage for the election of Majority Leader Ron Mariano of Quincy to the speaker’s chair that DeLeo has held for 12 of his 30 years in the chamber, a record-long tenure for any House leader in state history.
To most, maybe, but not to Rep. Russell Holmes of Mattapan, who said that if DeLeo steps down in the next few weeks as expected, he intends to challenge Mariano. The past leader of the Black and Latino Legislative Caucus said he made his decision last Thursday night after speaking with House Speaker Pro Tempore Patricia Haddad, who told him she did not intend to run.

Massachusetts House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo on Friday filed a much-anticipated ethics disclosure notifying officials he is in talks for a job with Northeastern University, potentially marking the beginning of the end of his tenure as the longest-serving House leader in Massachusetts history.
âI write to disclose that I intend to begin negotiating prospective employment opportunities with Northeastern University,â wrote DeLeo in a letter to the clerk of the House, Steven James.

Rep. Russell Holmes said Friday morning he intends to challenge Majority Leader Ron Mariano for control of the House if Speaker Robert DeLeo steps down, as expected, in the coming weeks, offering an alternative to DeLeo s top deputy and altering the course of what was shaping up to be a smooth leadership transition.
