In response to allegations that it paid John Carson to appeal a lawsuit filed against Monsanto, a subsidiary of Bayer AG to the Eleventh Circuit, asked the appellate court to allow it to file the actual agreement between it and the plaintiff under seal in an unopposed motion on Wednesday, claiming that it was represented poorly to the court.
The allegations were filed in the matter on April 22 by plaintiffs involved in similar lawsuits in other courts against Monsanto regarding its Roundup herbicide and alleged harm caused by its active ingredient, glyphosate. These plaintiffs alleged that Bayer paid Carson to appeal the lawsuit because the Southern District of Georgia decided to dismiss some of the plaintiffs’ claims and Bayer wants that decision to apply to some of the other lawsuits against it, where it could save them even more money. TALLAHASSEE â Florida lawmakers have reached a compromise on a wide-ranging higher education bill that would create several tuition breaks for college students and would expand on the Legislatureâs push to provide coronavirus liability protections.
The legislation, passed unanimously by the Senate on Tuesday, would shield public and private universities from lawsuits seeking tuition and fee reimbursements as a result of pandemic-related school disruptions â and could do away with about 24 lawsuits filed in Florida against higher-education institutions.

Bayer allegedly paid John Carson, a plaintiff who alleged the herbicide Roundup caused his cancer, to appeal a lawsuit against its subsidiary, Monsanto, to the Eleventh Circuit, according to Thursday’s filing in the lawsuit by other plaintiffs with similar claims against Monsanto in separate lawsuits.
Reportedly, Bayer hoped that this appeal of the court’s dismissal of some of Carson’s claims would set a precedent, which could help the agriculture giant in many of the other lawsuits filed against Monsanto and its Roundup herbicide, so it negotiated to enter this “pay to appeal scheme.”
