A mix of familiar and new faces were sworn into office last Tuesday afternoon to take over a number of elected county positions.
In front of a judge and crowd of masked onlookers at the front of the Alachua County courthouse, the newly elected officials took the oath of office to lead one of the following departments: Supervisor of Elections, Tax Collector, State Attorney, Property Appraiser, Public Defender, Clerk of Court and Sheriff’s Office.
While a few seats were won by longstanding elected officials, a few were won by new people.
Former Assistant State Attorney Brian Kramer officially took over for the departing Bill Cervone who’s held the seat for 20 years.
If you own property in Pine Knoll Shores (PKS), the town may soon have an abundant supply of wood chips available for you to load and haul. Rather than completing its regular power line trimming, the Carteret Craven Electric Cooperative (CCEC) will engage in line clearing. CCEC will be removing lots of trees from the power line right of way in town. They will also engage in extensive trimming in the adjacent wood lots, including trimming on private property. We are comforted by the Town Manager, Brian Kramer, that trees will not be removed from private property, just trimmed. Note, I did notice some trees on private property that have been marked for removal.

Frenemies forever? PNG’s prime minister sees off a challenge
Prime Minister James Marape (Peter Morris/Sydney Heads) Published 16 Dec 2020 14:30 0 Comments
So was this serious? Or have the past month’s political events been a cunningly disguised economic rescue package for Papua New Guinea’s resort and restaurant industries?
It was more than a month ago that PNG was thrown into political crisis when Deputy Prime Minister Sam Basil led a number of ministers and MPs to walk away from the government to the opposition.
That was the first surprise salvo in a campaign to knock off James Marape as prime minister in a vote of no confidence. Rival “camps” at rival resorts on rival sides of the country soon took shape, along with a Covid-19 outbreak and multiple trips to Papua New Guinea’s Supreme Court, including one case that invalidated the parliament’s vote on the budget.
