Father of Kate Leadbetter unable to speak after crash that killed her and her boyfriend in Brisbane

13:56 EDT, 28 January 2021 The heartbroken father of a pregnant woman killed in a horror car crash with her boyfriend has been left so traumatised that he s unable to speak about her death. Kate Leadbetter, 31, and her boyfriend Matthew Field, 37, died after they were allegedly hit by a teenage driver in Alexandra Hills in Brisbane s east on the evening of Australia Day. The pair were out for a walk with their dogs when the 17-year-old - allegedly high on drugs and driving a stolen 4WD - ploughed into another car before rolling and hitting the couple. The teenager - who cannot be identified - was remanded in custody on numerous charges including two counts of murder at Brisbane Children s Court on Wednesday but even if found guilty could serve less than ten years behind bars.

01:22 EDT, 28 January 2021 A teenage driver accused of murdering a young couple as they walked their dog on Australia Day had shared boastful photos online of him posing next to a machete and handling large sums of cash.  The 17-year-old was allegedly high on drugs and driving a stolen Toyota 4WD when he struck Matthew Field, 37, and his girlfriend Kate Leadbetter, 31, at Alexandra Hills in Brisbane s south-east on Tuesday evening.  Ms Leadbetter was six months pregnant at the time of her death. The teenager - who cannot be identified - was remanded in custody on charges including two counts of murder at Brisbane Children s Court on Wednesday.
