Police officer s COVID-19 death not eligible for workers comp

Friends remember Officer Kendle Blackburn as the  friendliest officer you could ever meet, said Lebanon Police Chief Bryan Arnold, who d known Blackburn for more than 20 years.  He was always smiling, waving at the public, Arnold recalled. He d do anything for anybody. I always said he was like our unofficial ambassador of the police department. The entire town knew him and loved him. Kendle s death had a big impact on our community. He was well-known, well-liked, Arnold said. Everybody loved him, and you could tell. On the day of his funeral, people in Lebanon lined the streets to show their support.

Newport s St Patrick s Day Parade has left an indelible impression

Newport Life magazine It seemed like a great idea at the time. It was the late 1980s, and Newport was hosting the St. Patrick’s Day parade, as it had every year since 1957. One of the sponsors brought along a half-dozen miniature Clydesdale horses. Prancing proudly in the middle of the parade, the diminutive equines did indeed charm the spectators if not the marchers who followed. “The people who came after had to tiptoe the rest of the route,” says James Mahoney, Grand Marshal of the 2008 parade. Lesson learned. “After that year, all equestrian mounts were placed at the end,” he says with a chuckle.

Hometown Heroes program honors New York veterans February 05, 2021 A VFW Life member in New York was inspired to start a program honoring local veterans and military members during a trip with his wife in the Catskills Mountains. “We were driving through Cairo (New York) and saw banners with service members on them,” retired Army 1st Sgt. Bill Forte said. “My wife (Doris) and I pulled over to look at them, and I thought it was a good idea to do it in our area.” Life member of VFW Post 1386 in Kingston, New York, and retired Army 1st Sgt. Bill Forte displays Hometown Heroes banners in Kingston in 2019. The program has made more than 600 banners for veterans and military members in the Kingston area.
