TORONTO More than 60 per cent of eligible Canadians have been vaccinated with their first COVID-19 vaccine doses in Canada. But the rate at which second doses are being administered is still lagging far beyond the first-dose rate. The federal government has previously stated that everyone who is eligible and willing to receive the vaccine can be fully vaccinated by September, however in the past seven days, Canada has been vaccinating an average of almost one per cent of Canadians with their first dose and 0.11 per cent of Canadians with their second dose. If this rate of vaccination continues throughout the summer, the country would have 20 per cent of its eligible populationâthose 12 years of age and olderâfully vaccinated by early October.
UPDATE: This story has been amended with calculations reflecting a shift from first doses to second doses in the future.

A new survey shows that the COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly hard on teachers.
So far about two thousand school board employees have taken part in the Univerity of Toronto and Mount Sinai study.
Dr. Brenda Coleman says slowly teachers are starting to be immunized, but there is some bad news as well.
“As of two weeks ago, about 29 percent of them had been vaccinated at least once,” states Dr. Coleman.
“One of the sad things that we learned is about 40 percent of them have moderate to severe levels of distress.”
Dr. Coleman says online learning is only part of the problem.
