RCSD investigating shooting incident that left a 17-year-old dead Dec 22, 2020 11:06 AM EST COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after both a 16-year-old and 17-year-old were shot on Monday night. Deputies say the 17-year-old died as a result of his injuries. Around 8:40 p.m. on Monday, deputies say they responded to the 200 block of Shagbark Avenue to reports of a shooting. At the scene. deputies say they found a 16-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body. Authorities say he was taken to a hospital for treatment. Shortly after, deputies say they were notified of a 17-year-old, suffering from a gunshot wound, who had been dropped of at Prisma Health Richland. Deputies say he died from his injuries.

(WOLO) – The Fairfield County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal vehicle collision this month. Coroner Chris Hill says Philip Wilson, 72, died from his injuries at a local hospital, following the collision on East Peach Road on December 11. According to investigators, he was traveling on the road after 12 p.m., when he lost control of his 2020 Ford SUV, went down an embankment and hit a tree. South Carolina Highway Patrol says he was wearing a seat belt but later died at Prisma Health Richland.

An Orangeburg-based family wellness program will hold its 12th annual Infant Mortality Awareness and Scholarship Luncheon on Friday, Sept. 13. Healthy Start, which Family Solutions administers along with the NFP, works to reduce infant mortality in Barnwell, Allendale, Bamberg, Hampton and Orangeburg counties. The NFP program serves Orangeburg County.

Two Midlands hospitals are above the rest when it comes to safety in new report card Dec. 14 Two Midlands hospitals stand out in safety grades released by a medical watchdog group Monday. Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge continues to be ranked as one of the safest hospitals in South Carolina, according to the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. Joining it is Lexington Medical Center, which was rated among the safest hospitals as well. The Columbia and Lexington hospitals received the highest grade from the Leapfrog Group, which issues biannual safety rankings. Since 2012, the Leapfrog Group has published Hospital Safety Scores twice a year once in the spring and once during the fall to create transparency in the U.S. health system. The rating is focused on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
