Subscriber only HELPING yourself to donated goods put in charity bins is still theft, even if you see other people do it. One Ipswich man learnt the lesson when he went before Ipswich Magistrates charged with stealing goods including a high-vis bright orange work vest. When Matthew Paton and his buddy were spotted removing goods from a charity bin in West Ipswich an annoyed passer-by phoned police. This week Matthew James Paton, 42, pleaded guilty to stealing goods from First World Charities in Brisbane Street on September 1 last year. He also pleaded to an unrelated breach of a protection order.

During the Covid-19 pandemic he started to walk, clocking up to 70k a week and started to feel the positive impact on his health. Now all his hard work paying off as he is discharged from the diabetes clinic and slims down. Robert, 60, from Brisbane Street, said: I just really hope I can inspire others to change their lives.
Representing the property, realtor Cheryl Kermond said a range of buyers had been calling.

Thefts from vehicles
• Money and property were taken from two vehicles in the 10900 through 11500 blocks of Deborah Drive between 7 p.m. on Dec. 19 and 9 a.m. on Dec. 20.
• Money and property were taken from three vehicles between 3 p.m. on Dec. 30 and 11 a.m. on Dec. 31. Affected streets included Needwood Road, Mistic View Court and Eagles Head Court.
Vehicle thefts
• A vehicle was taken in the 15900 block of Frederick Road between 9:50 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 11 a.m. on Jan. 1.
