Herkimer County DEC Officer Named Wildlife Officer of the Year
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is celebrating one of its officers from Herkimer County, who was recently named Wildlife Officer of the Year by an international group.
DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos announced Wednesday that Shikar-Safari Club International had named Environmental Conservation Police Officer Darryl Lucas its Wildlife Officer of the Year. On behalf of DEC, I congratulate ECO Lucas for receiving this prestigious award, Commissioner Seggos said in a press release. ECO Lucas exemplifies the tireless efforts DEC s law enforcement officers exhibit each day to enforce New York s environmental laws and ensure New York s environment and natural resources are protected for generations to come.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Law enforcement and other public officials want to assure South Carolinians there are safety measures in place ahead of President-elect Joe Bidenâs inauguration on January 20.
The FBI has warned of the potential for armed protests at all 50 statehouses, as well as the U.S. Capitol. State officials say the South Carolina State House and the surrounding area are secure.
STROH â Three men had to be pulled from Big Turkey Lake after falling through the ice on Wednesday, said a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Law Enforcement.
Indiana Conservation Officers responded to a report of three fishermen who had fallen through at about 3:30 p.m.
One man had fallen into the lake as he was going out to ice fish with his father. He was freed from the water by two other fishermen and as they were returning to shore, they all went in.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., Steuben County Communications received a 911 call that the fishermen had fallen through the ice near the 10200 block West C.R. 475S.

On Nov. 13, Forest Rangers Hanno and McCartney discovered an illegal camp near a remote pond in the West Canada Lake Wilderness Area. Upon further investigation, the forest rangers observed multiple state land violations. On the evening of Nov. 19, the Rangers apprehended two hunters from Forestport occupying the camp. An interview with the two hunters revealed the pair was responsible for cutting out a trail, cutting 14 trees to build their camp, using a chainsaw in a wilderness area, storing personal property on state land, camping violations, and landing a plane on a prohibited body of water in a wilderness area. Rangers issued multiple tickets for the various offenses.
