The Paul and Frances Duff Pursuit of Excellence award is given annually to the person who demonstrates extraordinary commitment to improving our institutional quality, who constantly seeks to actualize talents and gifts, who displays integrity by committing personal energy to the fullest development of her or his God-given gifts, who recognizes the importance of faith and unselfish service, and who is a great credit to Briar Cliff University.
The 2021 recipient of this award is tireless. They dedicate an immense amount of time to our students and are often the first call when a student has a need or question.

The Spiritus Franciscanus Award is presented to a member of the Briar Cliff University community who practices our university values and visibly reflects the lives and character of Saint Francis and Saint Clare.
This year s recipient started work at Briar Cliff relatively recently. They head up a relatively small department. Despite this, they have had a large impact on a large number of individuals. They have helped elevate Franciscan values on our campus, providing encouragement and also encouraging reflection. A nominator suggested that she reminds us of the bigger picture of life and why we are all at BCU.
Briar Cliff Welcomes Presidential Scholars May 12, 2021
Briar Cliff University welcomed its four Presidential Scholars to the April 30 Charger Orientation.
Braxton Brockhaus, son of Greg and Heather Brockhaus, will study biology while attending BCU. He chose Briar Cliff because of the family atmosphere and Catholic Franciscan values.
“I am most looking forward to seeing how Briar Cliff can push me to be the best person I can be,” Brockhaus says.
Sarah Glover, daughter of Jason and Laura Glover, plans to study exercise physiology for pre-med. She looks forward to growing and exploring new opportunities.
“BCU has the atmosphere and culture I’m looking for. Their Catholic Franciscan values will allow me to continue to grow through campus ministry and other organizations,” Glover says.

Ray Cole is President and Chief Operating Officer of Citadel Communications Company. He is a native of Kingsley where his Midwest values and work ethic were shaped at an early age while working in his father’s grocery store.
Ray went on to attend Briar Cliff where he graduated with honors. While at Briar Cliff, Ray completed an internship with KCAU-TV. This opportunity propelled him into a career in broadcasting totaling more than 40 years. In his role for Citadel, Ray was responsible for the oversight of ABC affiliates in Lincoln (NE), Providence (RI), Des Moines (IA), Rock Island (IL), and Sioux City (IA). Currently, he oversees the station in Sarasota (FL).
Nursing Pinning Ceremony 2021 May 7, 2021
The pinning ceremony is Briar Cliff University s way of symbolically welcoming our newly graduated nurses into the profession. In the ceremony, the new nurses are presented with nursing pin by the BCU Nursing Faculty or a loved one chosen by the graduate.
