MEDAL ALERT
Roniel Iglesias of Cuba won his second Olympic boxing gold medal by soundly beating Pat McCormack of Britain in the welterweight final.
Iglesias added Tokyo gold to his two previous light welterweight medals. He won gold in London and bronze from Beijing. He also fought at welterweight in Rio de Janeiro but lost in the quarterfinals.
Iglesias largely controlled the final bout with superior footwork and technique against McCormack. McCormack was gracious in defeat as Iglesias celebrated Cubaâs first official boxing medal in Tokyo. Several more are already clinched.
Aidan Walsh of Ireland and Andrei Zamkovoy of Russia claimed bronze medals. Walsh was unable to fight McCormack in the semifinals after he injured his ankle while leaping to celebrate his quarterfinal victory.

Brume jumped 6.97 meters to clinch the bronze medal in the long jump event.
The world championship bronze medallist became the first athlete to claim an Olympic medal for Nigeria in 13 years.
Malaika Mihambo, the reigning world champion, claimed the gold medal with a 7.00m jump.

American athlete, Brittney Reese, who won gold in London 2012, finished second with 6.97m to take the silver medal.
Brume went right into the lead with her first jump of 6.97m but she went behind after she leaped 6.67 meters in the second jump and recorded a foul jump at the third attempt.
Early on, the medal contenders had bunched up at the top with Mihambo moving within 2cm of Brume’s 6.97m and Serbia’s Ivana Spanovic in third with 6.91m.

TOKYO Before Athing Mu introduced herself to the world at the Tokyo Games, the public-address announcer at Olympic Stadium butchered her name.
It was Friday, before her opening round heat of the women’s 800 meters, and Mu did not hide her dismay.
“I’m sure everyone saw my face,” said Mu, a 19-year-old American whose name is pronounced “Ah-THING Moe.”
“I don’t even know what he said, but it was terrible. Like, where do you even get that from?”
Mu said all this with a charming, disarming smile she was used to people getting her name wrong, she said, but it also seemed clear that she wanted some respect. So she went out and made sure to earn it as an Olympic gold medalist.

Norway s Karsten Warholm shattered the world record to claim gold in an epic 400m hurdles at the Olympics on Tuesday as Germany s Malaika Mihambo soared to victory in the long jump.
One of the most eagerly-anticipated events of the Olympic track and field programme, the 400m hurdles lived up to its billing as world champion Warholm produced a jaw-dropping performance in fierce midday sun at Tokyo s Olympic Stadium.
The 25-year-old stormed over the line in an incredible 45.94sec, slicing a massive 0.8sec off his own world mark of 46.70sec set in Oslo last month.
