Powys man to swap contact-tracing for Tokyo Olympic Games

A CONTACT-tracing advisor is about to swap slowing the spread of Covid-19 in Powys for helping the UK’s top athletes win gold at the Tokyo Olympics. Strength and conditioning specialist, Neil Lewis, from Bettws Cedewain, near Newtown, has been part of Powys County Council’s successful contact tracing team for the last five months. Alongside his role fighting the spread of Covid-19, he has continued his work for British Equestrian as Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach, making sure its riders are in peak condition for the Olympics. It will be the first time Neil has been on the plane to the Olympics, but not the first time he has worked to prepare GB athletes for the game.

New home for Olympia for 2021 — and maybe longer

Horse & Hound Trending: ORGANISERS of Olympia, the London International Horse Show, have promised to recreate and enhance all the traditional aspects of the show at its new home for 2021. The event will run, from 16 to 20 December, at the ExCeL centre, London. The Olympia London venue, which has hosted the show for 49 years, is being redeveloped and as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the building work has “accelerated”, which will restrict its use in December. Event director Simon Brooks-Ward told H&H the show will be “the same – and better”. “I can understand people might say they love the Grand Hall; my brother and I have worked on Olympia since we were eight and six respectively so if anyone was to be upset, we’d be at the front of the queue,” he said. “But what I’d say to our loyal fan base, having walked round the ExCeL, is not only physically what we can do there but the can-do attitude from the people in it to help us produce an excellent

Eventing advocate Tim Holderness-Roddam dies aged 78

The longstanding eventing supporter Tim Holderness-Roddam died suddenly on 15 April, aged 78. Tim was a passionate and knowledgeable advocate of eventing for many years and gave his time freely to support, advise and promote the sport; including roles with British Eventing (BE), British Equestrian (BEF), the Horse Trials Support Group and Blenheim and Burghley horse trials. In 2010 Tim was presented with a BEF medal of honour in recognition of his outstanding achievement and contribution to the international equestrian world. Tim was educated at Radley College, followed by military service in the King’s Royal Hussars. His successful 30-year career at Tate & Lyle plc (UM Group) culminated in the role of managing director of United Molasses Group, where he was responsible for the worldwide trading, storage and distribution business.
