A QUICK-THINKING schoolgirl who saved her mum s life has been named a Child of Courage in a prestigious award ceremony. Mia Hignett showed calm and courage way beyond her years when mum Helen suffered a terrifying seizure and stopped breathing. The eight-year-old called 999 and with guidance from an operator cleared her mum’s airway and placed her in the recovery position, saving her life. Once she was breathing, she looked after her one-year-old sister Ava until paramedics arrived.

Thirteen-year-old Keira Arnold has received the Pride of Manchester Teenager of Courage Award following an incredible year of fundraising for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
Hits Radio presenters Gemma Atkinson and Wes Butters presented Keira with her award.
Keira has been fundraising for Dr Kershaw’S for over four years, raising money for ‘Keira’s Wishes’, her very own fundraising initiative which provides patients with their last wishes whilst at the Hospice.
Her incredible efforts have seen her raise over £36,000 for the Hospice, and she attended the official Pride of Manchester Awards event hosted by TV star Kym Marsh at the iconic Midland Hotel in Manchester city centre.
