Francisco Garcia, 63 years, owns the last analogic photo lab in Tijuana. His business had been offering its services since 1989 on the same spot; La Plaza del Zapato in the Zona Rio Tijuana. But this year he couldn’t keep the business open any longer due to Covid.
After finishing his studies in Guadalajara as electronics engineer, he moved to Ciudad Obregon in Sonora where he got a job as maintenance assistant he found advertised in the newspaper. .
“They told me I got the job, so when I showed up to work the first day, I realized that my job was in a photography lab. I was 28 years old, but since 14 I was a big fan of photography.

The Vancouver Farmers Market opened for its 31st season this spring with some new eats. Old favorites like Funky Fresh Juice, Hummus Hummus Middle Eastern Cuisine, Mighty Bowl and Sabor Mexican Grill are joined by relative newcomers Melted Crumbs, the Taco Dudes and So Long Cookie.

Melted Crumbs, located in the center of the market, offers an unusual mix of Greek donut holes (loukoumades) as well as empanadas served with spicy peri peri red sauce or mild green sauce.

Steve Christy cited a bogus study making its way around right-wing websites when he made a run at lifting Pima County s mask ordinance at last week s board meeting. Christy s motion died for lack of a second. In justifying his push to lift the ordinance that requires Pima County residents to wear face masks in public when they can t physically distance from other people (and also requiring businesses to ask customers to wear masks), Christy cited a study he said was from the Medical Center at Stanford University that purported to show that wearing masks did nothing to stop the spread of COVID and could in fact be hazardous to people s health.
