A late second-half push awarded Nevada a 79-72 victory over San Diego, behind dominant performances from the dynamic guard duo of Desmond Cambridge Jr. and Grant Sherfield.
USD tied it at 67 after a thunderous two-handed jam from Josh Parrish. A jump hook over the left shoulder of Nevada’s Zane Meeks gave it the 69-67 lead. It extended its advantage to 72-67 lead after a steal from Sherfield, who fed the open Cambridge for a wing 3-pointer.
The Toreros trimmed it to 74-72 with under a 1:36, but weren’t able to muster up a strong enough comeback to earn their first victory of the season.

Wanting to erase the foul taste of a 9-23 season, USD men’s basketball coach Sam Scholl hit the transfer market, bringing in five Division I players. Normally those athletes would arrive on campus in late June and meld with returning players for eight weeks of summer practice, not to mention hours in open gym workouts.
All that was erased by COVID-19 restrictions, the transfers not arriving for another two months.
In August, the Toreros’ leading scorer, Braun Hartfield, informed coaches he would not be back for his redshirt senior season. Then on Nov. 20, five days before USD was scheduled to open the 2020-21 season, the Toreros halted men’s basketball for 14 days when an unidentified player tested positive for the virus.

UCLA routs San Diego 83-56 to win 4th in row; Juzang debuts
By BETH HARRISDecember 10, 2020 GMT
LOS ANGELES (AP) Johnny Juzang unleashed a 3-pointer midway through the first half of his first game with UCLA. Relief washed over him as it dropped in.
The Kentucky transfer scored 10 points in 19 minutes of the Bruins’ 83-56 victory over San Diego on Wednesday night, nine months after he played his last game for the Wildcats. The guard from nearby Tarzana is back home and feeling at home in Westwood.
“It’s been a long time, a lot of training, a lot of pickup games, nothing real,” Juzang said. “To get out there and when the shot went in, it was like ‘Ahh.’ It felt great, man. I’ve been waiting for it.”
