Covid-19 transmissions in Hua Hin have showcased the threat the virus poses: a single case can multiply into an exponentially expanding outbreak, forcing people across the country to scramble for tests and beds in hospitals.
Prachuap Khiri Khan has registered 193 infections since the beginning of this month 142 of them in Hua Hin district and the outbreak is belived to have started with one individual.
The 26-year-old woman, who told health officials that she worked as a public relations officer at Krystal Club, left Bangkok with her boyfriend to visit to her mother in the resort city on March 30. Showing no symptoms, she did not realise she was carrying the coronavirus with her.
Inoculation key to Mice sector revival

Bangkok hotels under the SET-listed Grande Asset Hotels and Property Plc (GRAND) are encouraging the government to accelerate mass inoculation as hotels are already suffering from the lack of international tourists and Mice (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) travellers.
Pasu Tunruengsri, vice-president hotel strategy and analysis at Grande Asset Hotels and Property, said the revenue contribution from Mice events was often as high as 40% in Bangkok and the group had lost tens of millions of baht per month following the new wave of the pandemic in December of last year.
The group has five top-tier hotels, of which three are located in Bangkok including Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers and Hyatt Regency.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in environmental policy from the London School of Economics, Dominic Puwasawat Chakrabongse pursued his passion for environment conservation with several NGOs around the globe. On returning to Thailand he was shocked by Bangkok’s overwhelming abundance of trash and decided take action. “I wanted to do something that was community driven and emphasised the circular economy,” he says. “That’s how Precious Plastic Thailand came about. It was born out of this effort to inspire and empower ordinary people across the country to change their perception of plastic and understand that it can be turned into something new and valuable.”
